On Thursday night LeBron James debut a mask that he planned to wear for the rest of the season to protect his recently broken nose: Thursday would be the only night he would wear it. After Thursday night's game, the NBA asked James to switch to a clear mask so that opponents could see his face better.
James had no problems with the NBA request and switched to a clear mask for Friday's game.
"It's not a league rule, but it's the league's request that I don't wear the black one," James said before Saturday's game. "The reasons they told me didn't make sense to me, but I'm just a player. I will abide by the request." While in the black mask James was compared to Gotham City hero Batman and he fully took it as a complement posting a pic of himself and batman on his instagram.
Teammate Dwayne Wade said he warned James that, while the mask was fun and it did receive so much attention, it would be short lived.
"I told him after Thursday's game, `You have fun, because it ain't happening the next game,"' Wade said. "It was fun. A lot of attention, a lot of T-shirts are going to be made, a lot of Instagram posts. Now we move on to something else."
What's the future of the black mask? LeBron has stated that he may auction the mask so that the proceeds can be donated to charity.
