Before LeBron James' big decision to take his talents to south beach, heat fans were practically nonexistent in the Nation's capital. Since the big move by James, oh and Chris Bosh formally of the Toronto Raptors, and the teams back-two-back championships heat "fans" are everywhere.
So that leads to the question, where is the loyalty in sports?
Im sure Wizards fans had a great laugh at the new found Heat fans, but what does this say about the way we route for sports? Should be ostracize those who decide to jump from team-to-team or should we embrace fair whether fans as the new normal?
When I was growing up, I had one favorite NBA team, The Los Angeles Lakers, and despite the teams recent downfall, I'm still a hard core Laker Fan. I could have jumped ship when Shaquille O'Neal, and almost everyone else who was instrumental in the the Lakers 3peat left, but the Lakers have been my team since the 90's and a few bumps in the road won't change that.
This generation seems to be geared to just routing for the best players or the players who are winning titles at the time; look at all these Oklahoma City fans, these people weren't routing for the Super Sonics but the Thunder seem to be a fan favorite.
I say you pick a team for life. You get one chance so pick your teams wisely; no serious sports fan takes the word of a bandwagon hop-on.
