Martin accused fellow Miami Dolphin, offensive lineman Richie Incognito of taunting him and bullying him at practice and through text message; Incognito has maintained his in innocence.
Ted Wells, an investigator, was hired to investigate the accusations and determine what really happened. Well's 144-page report said Incognito, who was suspended by Miami in November, and fellow offensive linemen John Jerry and Mike Pouncey harassed Martin. The report also found that while Martin took it the hardest, he was not the only member of the Dolphin organization being bullied.
The other harassed player, who has not been publicly identified, was "subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching," while the assistant trainer, who was born in Japan, was subjected to racial slurs. The Dolphins' Offensive Linemen Coach knew about the taunting of the identified player and instead of stepping in and stopping it he got in on the taunting too.
The Miami Dolphins will really have to do damage control after this report. The NFL has been doing anti-bullying campaigns and a story like this kind of makes what the NFL is doing as a joke. And on top of that the NFL is getting ready to welcome a gay player, there is no way a team like Miami could draft him and promise him that he'll fell comfortable in the locker room. If gay slurs are thrown at heterosexuals, just imagine what would happen if the person is actually a homosexual.
